Azrolid is indicated for treatment of infections caused by susceptible organisms (see properties) including: sinusitis, pharyngitis. tonsillitis, otitis media, lower respiratory tract infections (bronchitis and pneumonia), skin and soft-tissue infections, uncomplicated genital infections due to chlamydia trachomatis. Azrolid may also be used in the treatment of mycobacterium avium
complex infections and in toxoplasmosis encephalitis.
Dose and administration:
Tablets should be taken at least 1 hour before, or 2 hours after meals. The usual adult dose for most infections is 500 mg once a day, for 3 days. The usual dose for uncomplicated genital infections, due to chlamydia trachomatis, is 1 gm as a single dose.
Presentation: A box containing a strip of 3 tablets.
Drug interactions:
Azithromycin has been reported to potentiate the actions of carbamazepine, digoxin, ergot alkaloids, cyclosporine and valproate.
