AMPIFLUX

(Capsules and Powder for Oral Suspension
Broad Spectrum Antibiotic Combination
Indications
Composition : Each 250 mg capsule contains: Ampicillin (as trihydrate) equivalent to 125 mg Ampicillin activity Flucloxacillin (as sodium salt) equivalent to 125 mg Flucloxacillin activity Each 500 mg capsule contains : Ampicillin (as trihydrate) equivalent to 250 mg Ampicillin activity Flucloxacillin (as sodium salt) equivalent to 250 mg Flucloxacillin activity Each 5 ml of oral suspension contains Ampicillin ( as trihydrate ) equivalent to 125 mg Ampicillin activity Flucloxacillin ( as magnesium salt ) equivalent to 125 mg Flucloxacillin activity Properties AMP1FLUX is a broad spectrum antibiotic combination of ampicillin and flucloxacillin acting synergistically woVna n e of ani Ampicillin is a broad spectruM  profile. Ampicillin possesses a potent bactericidal action against a wide range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative non-penicillinase-producing bacteria. Flucloxacillin is a bactericidal with a broad spectrum activity against many strains of 11-lactamase-producing- bacteria, particularly li-lactamase-producing Staphylococci. Flucloxacillin is also active against Gram-positive aerobic and anaerobic bacilli. AMPIFLUX inhibits the transpeptidases responsible for the synthesis of peptidoglycan, the essential structure component of bacterial cell wall. This leads to complete eradication of susceptible organisms. Compared to ampicillin alone, the antibacterial spectrum of AMPIFLUX (ampicillin and flucloxacillin) covers a wider range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative it-lactamase and non-(t-lactamase-producing bacteria. AMPIFLUX has a high dinicaLefficapy_in_treatment_ of_mixad infez,tiOns_ancLinfections_caused by -tains
bacterial strains resistant to most penicillins and cephalosporins. AMPIFLUX is safe and well tolerated and is formulated as capsules and suspension to suit different age groups (adults, children and infants). Pharmacokinetics AMPIFLUX is stable in gastric medium and is well absorbed from the GIT. The dose should preferably be taken at least 30 minutes before meals as absorption is affected by the presence of food. Peak plasma concentrations are achieved within 1-2 hours. Plasma protein binding is about 20% for ampicillin and 95% for flucloxacillin. Both ingredients of AMPIFLUX are well distributed into most body tissues and fluids including liver, lungs, heart, kidneys, prostate, skin, mucous membranes, bone and ascitic, pleural, synovial and ocular fluids. They also penetrate middle ear effusions. maxillary sinus, bronchial secretion and sputum. There is little diffusion into the CSF except when meninges are inflamed. AMPIFLUX is metabolized to a limited extent and 20 - 40% of ampicillin and about 50% of flucloxacillin are excreted in the urine and only small amounts are excreted in the bile. Plasma half-life is 1-2 hours for ampicillin and about 1 hour for flucloxacillin. AMPIFLUX crosses the placenta and appears in breast milk. Hemodialysis removes ampicillin, but not flucloxacillin, from the body. Antimicrobial Spectrum AMPIFLUX possesses a potent bactericidal acitivity against a wide range of pathogenic microorganisms including 13-lactamase-producing strains: Gram-positive bacteria Staphylococci including Staph. aureus, Streptococcus pneumoniae, S. pyogenes, S. faecalis, S. viridans. Bacillus anthracis and Listeria monocytogenes. Gram-negative bacteria Haemophilus influenzae, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, N. meningitidis, Proteus mirabilis, Escherichia coli and Salmonella and Shigella species. Anaerobes : Clostridium species, Peptococcus species and Bacteroids species including B. fragilis.
