Indications:
pipe-Pre is indicated for therapy and prophylaxis of infections caused by highly penicillin-sensitive organisms. It is used as therapy in:
- Upper respiratory tract Infections.
- Venereal infections: syphilis.
- Prophylaxis of rheumatic fever and / or chorea: use of Benzathine penicillin has been proven effective in preventing recurrence of these conditions. It is used also as follow up prophylactic therapy for rheumatic heart disease and acute glomerulonephritis.
Side Effects:
Attention should be paid to possible side-effects manifested in the form of allergic reactions such as anaphylaxis, udicaria, fever, joint pain and exfolialive dermatitis. Stomatitis and pseudomembranous colitis are occasionally observed after administration of penicillin. Overgrowth of resistant microorganisms or fungi may occur during long-term antibiotic therapy. Local reactions are possible in infants.
Drug Interactions:
Concurrent administration of bacteriostatic antibiotics (erythromycin, tetracycline) may diminish the bactericidal effects of penicillins by slowing the rate of bacterial growth. Penicillin blood levels may be prolonged by concurrent administration of probenecid which blocks the renal tubular secretion of penicillins. Contra-Indications and Risks:
A history of hypersensitivity to penicillin. A possible cxoss-allergywith cephalosporins should be considered. - Wecntngs-endpreeeutferts,—
Before initiating therapy with any penicillin, careful inquiry should be made concerning previous hypersensitivity reactions to penicillins or cepha(osporins.
Senous and occasionally fatal hypersensitivity reactions have been reported in patients on penicillin therapy.
If allergic reaction develops, the drug should be discontinued and appropriate therapy (such as adrenaline, antihistamine and corticosteroid) should be initiated.
Dissolve in 5 ml water for injection and shake well before use.
Dipo-Pie should be injected deeply intramuscular in a relatively large muscle.
The site of injection should be changed every injection.
Ills recommended by PDR louse a 23 gauge or larger bore needle to withdraw or inject Benzathine Penicillin G Pregnancy: Category B: the drug should be used during pregnancy only if clearly needed.
